The Correct Skincare Order: How to Layer Your Products?
A skincare routine does not need to be complicated. Yet even a few products can feel confusing when you are unsure which one should come first.
Should serum be applied before face cream? Does facial oil replace moisturiser? And where does a cleansing oil belong?
Every product has a different texture and purpose. Applying them in the right order helps each formula sit comfortably on the skin without making your routine feel unnecessarily heavy.
The Simple Rule for Layering Skincare
Begin by cleansing. Then apply your remaining products from the lightest texture to the richest.
A complete routine generally follows this order:
- Cleanser
- Serum
- Face cream
- Face oil
- Sunscreen during the day
You do not need to use every step each time. Your routine should respond to your skin and fit naturally into your life.

Step 1: Cleanse
Cleansing removes makeup, excess oil and the impurities that collect on your skin throughout the day. It also creates a fresh foundation for the products that follow.
RevitaClear Face Oil gently cleanses and removes makeup without leaving the skin feeling stripped. Apply it as the first step of your routine, then rinse it away before continuing.
Although RevitaClear is called a face oil, it is a cleansing oil. Unlike a nourishing facial oil, it is designed to be removed from the skin.
Step 2: Apply Serum
Serums are usually lightweight and should be applied directly to freshly cleansed skin.
Luminara Elixir Face Serum combines multiple peptides, Niacinamide and botanical extracts to support hydration, radiance and a smoother-looking complexion.
Apply a small amount across the face and neck. Allow it a brief moment to settle before continuing with your face cream.
Step 3: Moisturise
A face cream provides hydration, comfort and support for the skin barrier. Because it has a richer texture than serum, it should be applied afterwards.
LuxeLift Face Cream combines a Ceramide Complex with Cornflower Extract, Squalane and White Tea. Its lightweight, non-greasy texture makes it suitable for morning and evening use.
Massage a small amount gently into the face and neck, paying particular attention to areas that feel dry.
Step 4: Finish With Facial Oil
Facial oil is usually the final nourishing step of your routine.
Oil does not replace the hydration provided by a serum or cream. Instead, it softens the skin and helps reduce moisture loss.
Apply ShineCharm Drops Nourishing Face Oil after LuxeLift Face Cream. Warm two or three drops between your fingertips, then gently press them into the skin.
You can use it across the entire face or only where additional nourishment is needed.
Do Not Forget Daytime Protection
During the day, finish your routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Sunscreen should be applied after your moisturiser and facial oil, but before makeup. Follow the application instructions provided with your chosen sunscreen.
DERTIOK does not currently offer a sunscreen, but sun protection remains an important part of a complete daytime routine.
Do You Need to Wait Between Products?
You do not normally need to wait several minutes between every step.
Allow each product a short moment to spread and settle before applying the next. If products begin to roll into small flakes, you may be using too much or applying the next layer too quickly.
A few drops of serum or oil and a small amount of cream are often enough.

A Routine That Belongs to You
The correct skincare order gives your routine structure, but it should never make skincare feel like another obligation.
Some days, you may enjoy completing every step. On others, cleansing and moisturising may be enough. Pay attention to how your skin feels and adjust your routine when its needs change.
Take a moment to slow down as you massage in your cream or press oil gently into your skin. Your routine can be more than a sequence of products. It can be a small pause between everything the day asks of you and the moment you return to yourself.
Reconnect with your body. Welcome to the blue side of skincare.
